Axialis IconWorkshop has been designed to be fully compatible with Windows Vista. The interface is adjusted automatically to integrate smoothly in Aero (user interface of Windows Vista). All file and registry operations comply with the UAC (User Account Control) specifications.
Support for Windows Vista 256x256 PNG-compressed icons
Axialis IconWorkshop loads, creates, edits, saves icons for Windows Vista. This new operating system introduced a PNG-compressed image format which permits to create icons up to 256x256 with alpha channel.
IconWorkshop fully supports this format in all features: edition, automatic format creation, batch creation, batch conversion, format normalization... Don't wait and create today your icons for Windows Vista.
Axialis IconWorkshop is the only icon editor which permits creation and edition of Image Strips for toolbars. If you're a developer, don't struggle with wide bitmaps anymore! Just open them in IconWorkshop and edit each icon separately.
It can read all kinds of Image Strips in BMP and PNG. Transparency is supported in 32 BPP images through Alpha channels and in 24 BPP or less images through a fixed background color.
Create icons in Image Strips
Icons in image strips can be added, copied, moved and removed. You can also create new image strips from ready-to-use image objects in a few drag & drops. The object pack "Lite Toolbars" permits creating sharp and crisp icons for toolbars.
Work efficiently with a Plug-in for Visual Studio 2005 and 2008
Axialis IconWorkshop includes a handy feature which permits to work efficiently with Visual Studio. The principle of this plug-in, as we've made it, is to create a direct bridge between the VS IDE and IconWorkshop.
The plug-in permits to easily edit in IconWorkshop an icon included in a solution. Just open the icon in the Visual Studio resource editor and launch the associated plug-in command. The icon is automatically opened in IconWorkshop and you can work on it as necessary. When you save it in IconWorkshop, the VS IDE automatically refreshes the icon document.
Compiling programs with 256x256 PNG icons using Visual C++ 6.0 and .NET 2005
Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2005 or prior versions does not support compilation of projects which contain 256x256 PNG-compressed icons. Using IconWorkshop you can simply create the icon in 256x256 uncompressed mode in order to compile the program. When the project is finished, open the final version of the executable file in IconWorkshop and compress directly the embedded icon.
Support for Mac OS 256x256 and 512x512 JPEG2000-compressed icons
Axialis IconWorkshop is an application which operates under Windows but it fully supports all the existing icon formats for Mac OS up to OSX 10.4 Tiger and OSX 10.5 Leopard. This new version introduced a JPEG2000-compressed image format which permits to create icons up to 512x512 with alpha channel.
IconWorkshop permits to create, convert and transfer icons from and to a Macintosh computer. ICNS, RSC and Mac Binary icon file formats are supported.

Automatically create icons from images
Axialis IconWorkshop features a powerful editor. But sometimes it's easier to create an icon from an existing image (see tutorial). Basically, you can import all kind of existing images: PSD, PNG, BMP, JPEG, GIF. As icons use transparency, IconWorkshop supports all formats containing Alpha Channel (a.k.a. 32 bit smooth transparency).
An exclusive feature permits to create an icon, with its several image formats, in just one operation! All is done automatically: Alpha channel is preserved, palettes are calculated for 256 color formats and transparency is generated:
Create attractive icons using Image Objects
Various Axialis Object Packs are included in IconWorkshop. They contain thousands of image objects which permit you to create an unlimited number of icons with various glossy effects and shapes simply using drag & drop:

Compatible with graphic industry standards
You can import PSD images with layers from Photoshop and easily create a multi-resolution icon from a program or company logo (see tutorial).
The application includes plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. These features permit to transfer images directly in memory and make your icon in a few clicks. No more temporary image files.
You can also export an icon image to Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro for modification (preserving transparency).
A powerful built-in Librarian
Use a powerful librarian to easily manage all your media and icon files. This is an integrated window (which can be hidden) where you can store, move, copy and extract all the files you're using in your work (images, icons, libraries).
Use a Media File Explorer with previews
Also, A built-in file explorer permits to browse your disks and find files including images and all files containing icons. This advanced explorer permits to display files in thumbnail mode. By a simple click you open any file in a viewer or editor window.

Redistribute your icons
A new compilation feature permits you to create professional installation packages to redistribute your Icon Libraries (Professional Edition only). It produces a compressed install program (the result is up to 70% smaller) convenient for Web distribution.
Also, an advanced system, based on activation codes, permits you to protect your Icon Libraries. The user will be prompted for a personal code to proceed with the installation. An activation code generator is also provided (see tutorial).
Customize Windows icons
A built-in feature permits you to customize many Windows icons (desktop, drives, trash, my computer...). It works with all Windows version up to Windows XP. This new version permits you to customize each folder icon individually.
