Mercurius Description

Unique search tool that helps you narrow search engine and metasearch searches

Mercurius is a free internet search application for Windows that will help you to narrow down web searches by suggesting keywords and phrases you could use. If you have ever been daunted by the number of results returned by search engines, or found it difficult to think of the keywords to use to find something, then why not try Mercurius?

With Mercurius, you perform a preliminary search using your 'best guess' keywords, and then use any keywords suggested by Mercurius to make the search more specific. You can iterate the search as many times as necessary, using more specific keywords each time, narrowing it down until you find what you want.

For example, imagine doing a search on "William Shakespeare", which returns more than a million results. From Mercurius' list of suggested keywords, you select "Ben Jonson" and "quote", and repeat the search. By thus narrowing your search to just a few hundred results, you quickly find Jonson's famous quote about Shakespeare being "not of an age, but for all time".

Mercurius will provide a richer and easier web experience by:

* guiding you to keywords that give more pertinent results when you repeat a search
* revealing unexpected connections between seemingly disparate subjects
* providing a more accurate picture of what you're actually searching for.

The software also has applications outside of straightforward internet searching, such as search engine optimization. For example, if you are designing a web-site, it can indicate the most frequently occurring words in the results of a given search. This will help you to identify unusual keywords that you could include in the text of the site to help it to stand out from the crowd, thus increasing website traffic.

Mercurius operates in partnership with Microsoft Internet Explorer (Version 4.0 or later), and can use most of the popular search engines to perform the actual search.
