Recovery for Exchange Server Description

Recovery for Exchange Server is a data recovery program for MS Exchange Server

Recovery for Exchange Server repairs corrupted Exchange Server email databases (.edb, .stm). The program can also be used on healthy databases as EDB to PST conversion tool.

Supported Exchange Server versions:
2010, 2007, 2003, 2003 SP1, 2003 SP2, 2000 and 5.5

The recovered data is saved into a set of Personal Storage File (.pst) format files. PST files are readable with Outlook or other compatible email client.

Data Browser

Data Browser is a new feature bundled with the product, available from the same program group where Recovery for Exchange Server is installed. It is a separate granular data recovery utility to view and extract individual items from email database.

System Requirements

Specific:

* Requires free space on disk about 1.5 size of the email database being recovered

General:

* Operating system: Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 2003 Server or 2008 Server. Windows 95, 98, ME are not supported.
* RAM: 256-1024 MB (depends on email database size and corruption range)
* Hard Disk: minimum 10 MB of free space required for installation
* Display: 640 x 480 or higher resolution, 256 colors

Use Cases

Recovery for Exchange Server allows users to recover EDB files that cannot be mounted to server because of email database corruption.

Exchange EDB recovery is done in the following easy steps:

* The database is opened with Recovery for Exchange Server. This usually takes a few minutes, although opening larger and heavily damaged databases can take longer.
* User selectively chooses mailboxes, folders and messages for export.
* Recovery for Exchange Server exports selected data in to a set of PST files.

Formerly known as Exchange Recovery, EDB repair utility has been renamed to Recovery for Exchange Server. After initial processing of corrupted EDB, Exchange Recovery allowed to select only entire mailboxes to extract. The new version provides the capability to browse and recover individual folders and messages within mailboxes.

EDB recovery software can be used in situations when Exchange EDB repair is necessitated by email database corruption due to the so called “dirty shutdown”. To repair Exchange EDB quickly, the database file should be placed on a local drive. It is important to note that using EDB repair tool over a network can have significant adverse effect on performance. EDB repair software performs multiple resource-intensive operations, thus requiring good disk drive throughput and short access times.

EDB to PST Converter

Recovery for Exchange Server is capable of performing EDB to PST conversion on both healthy and corrupted email databases. EDB-PST converter has many applications in the course of Exchange Server management. When converting Exchange EDB to PST with Recovery for Exchange Server, it is possible to select folders to be exported.

While databases can be as large as hundreds of gigabytes in case of Exchange EDB, PST files are typically much smaller than that. To extract PST from EDB, a subset of email messages must be selected. When this is done, press the Save button on the toolbar, and Recovery for Exchange Server will recover EDB to PST.

A common reason to export EDB to PST is migrating part of an Exchange email database to Outlook. Another incentive to export PST from EDB is extracting important emails from a damaged Exchange store that cannot be attached to server.
