Today is 10th Oct 2008, I'm very happy to announce about he220r1. It was released and ready to use to connecting your favourite 3g devices on ubuntu especially huawei devices. It also supported mobile phone Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola etc.

Unfortunately he220r1 is just for ubuntu, kubuntu, edubuntu, and all ubuntu based such as gos, ubuntu CE, ubuntu ME, poseidon, open-geu, mythbuntu, ubuntu-studio, ultimate, fluxbuntu, embun, ubuntulite, fluxbuntu, blankon etc.

For debian user, please share your comment here if this installer working well.

This he220 release 1 (he220r1) is for ubuntu and ubuntu based only

1. After extract tar.gz file, change directories to the file and be the su/sudo.
For installation, firstly you must be a root and run this command:

make
(info about he220r1)

#make install
(install he220r1)

make umtsmon
(will install umtsmon)

#make uninstall
(to remove installed he220r1)


2. After umtsmon installed, kindly open internet by terminal and hit

sudo wvdial huawei

3. Before using umtsmon, repair broken file, hit this at terminal:

sudo apt-get install -f

4. But if you are come from fresh ubuntu installation, find my sources.list in this package. Open with text editor and copy paste to you /etc/apt/sources.list. Take notice, just for ubuntu hardy and intrepid only.

5. How to dial he220r1?
-----------------------
In terminal, as a su, enter

#wvdial huawei

In kppp, gppp,(please make a little setup especially ttyUSB0).

just hit connect after make some configuration.

In umtsmon (recommend)
---------------------
Find umtsmon at menu - applications - internet - umtsmon or hit alt-F2 and enter umtsmon. Make sure all internet connection is OFF before using umtsmon.
Find connection tab, just hit connect button. (Very easy, isn't it). Umtsmon supported all kind umts and hsdpa devices.

3. Make sure to disconnecting internet after use or you will left wvdial's buggy..
(for wvdial - on terminal please use ctrl + c key ).
(for kppp, gppp and umtsmon, hit disconnect tab)
