AdFender helps block banner ads, flash ads, rich media ads, pop-up, pop-under fly-in or slide-in ads
AdFender is advanced software that helps block common web annoyances such as banner ads, flash ads, rich media ads, pop-up, pop-under, fly-in or slide-in ads, animations and unwanted background sounds. It enhances your online privacy by helping you erase your Web browsing history thoroughly and remove profiling or tracking cookies stored on your computer.
AdFender acts as a local content filtering HTTP proxy server. It acts as an intermediary for requests from your web browser seeking resources from other web servers. A client such as Internet Explorer connects to the proxy server requesting some resource, such as a file, image, web page, or other resource, available from a different server. AdFender evaluates the request according to its filtering rules. If the request is validated by AdFender, it provides the resource by connecting to the relevant server and obtaining the resource on behalf of the browser. AdFender automatically configures Internet Explorer proxy settings on start up and restores the original settings on exit.
AdFender supports Windows 7 / Windows Vista / Windows XP(SP2 or SP3). AdFender blocks embedded ads on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Opera. Other features of AdFender are specific to the Internet Explorer browser and is not applicable to any other browser.
To block embedded advertisements, you can configure any browser to use AdFender as it's HTTP proxy. When AdFender is enabled, it will filter requests originating from any browser or application that use AdFender as a proxy to connect to the Internet. You may also refer to your browser help manual on how to manually configure a HTTP proxy.
AdFender does not work for dial-up users. You must have a dedicated connection to the Internet (Cable/DSL/FIOS/LAN) to use AdFender. Also, if you are on a corporate network and use a configuration script to connect to the Internet, AdFender may not be able to work correctly under those circumstances. Please refer to AdFender Help on how to verify your proxy settings.
