Disk Spectra Pro Description

Disk Spectra lets you view information and utilize features on Windows

Disk Spectra is a file system utility that allows users to view exactly how their file system is laid out and being used, view detail content information for files and folders, defragment individual files and folders, discover where volume usage is high and where sizes and quotas are not in synch with actual space used. In addition, the free space on volumes can be viewed, searched, and cleared.

The Microsoft Windows file systems have many useful features available that are used primarily by custom applications and utilities, but are not readily available or easy to use for most users.

Disk Spectra is a tool designed to provide users an easy and intuitive way to:

* See exactly how and where disk space is being used
* Manage File & Folder links, including links to other drives
* Manage Alternate Data Streams
* View individual File & Folder fragmentation and defragment specific items
* View, Search, and Clear free space
* Utilize and manage the new (starting with Window Vista) security Integrity feature

Individual file & folder size and space use is displayed in detail

* Individual types of use are detailed (data streams, etc.)
* Cluster use groups are displayed in list and graphical form
* Use distribution is graphed (file, folder, system, free)
* Size ratios & Quota ratios are highlighted (actual use compared to data size and/or quota size)
* Fragment index & Relative folder usage values are color-coded

File & Folder Links are useful for managing many disk or deep folder trees

* View existing links, including those managed by the operating system
* Manage folder links to the same disk, different disks, and to volumes not assigned drive letters
* Manage file hard (direct) links on the same disk to reduce duplicating files
* Manage symbolic links to file (starting with Windows Vista)
* Easy user interface to manage new links

Windows Vista introduced a new security Integrity setting

* Integrity settings take precedence over the permissions set on files & folders
* Applications and the operating system can change and control integrity
settings but there are few tools for users to use
* Integrity setting values are clearly displayed in the explorer-style item list
* Integrity can be set by users with a new 'Integrity' tab on the
familiar security editor window

Other features allow users to completely control the contents of their file system

* Use search features to find items with specific fragmentation, data streams, size, quota use, etc.
* Identify individual items that are highly fragmented and defragment on an item basis
* Command line interface allows scheduled or batch running lengthy operations
* View and search the contents of the free space on disks
* Create, delete, and extract alternate data streams
