dMaintenance Description

A tool designed for fully automated and optionally invisible maintenance tasks

dMaintenance is a tool designed for fully automated and optionally invisible maintenance tasks, with usage in mind for scheduling via Windows Task Scheduler, pushing out via Group Policy on networks, or simply the ability to run on a remote system and "let it go by itself" so the tech can disconnect the session and get on to other things.

Features:

* Deletion of Temp Files:

o Delete Temp files for all user profiles, not just the currently logged in user profile!
+ Delete Temporary Internet Files
+ Delete Internet History
+ Delete Cookies
o Delete %windir%\$NTUninstxxxxx$ and $NTServicePackUninst$ directories
o Delete *.TMP files on entire partition
o Delete Zero-Byte files in %windir% and \system32

* Misc Functions:

o Correct system Time Zone settings if incorrect.
+ (Time Zone settings cannot be corrected on Windows Vista based systems, but works fine in Windows XP and Windows 7.)
o Sync system clock with an internet time server (time.nist.gov)
o Run the ProcessIdleTasks API

* Cleaning up Internet Explorer:

o Disable Work Offline mode for IE
o Disable all IE Toolbars
o Remove all IE BHOs

* Networking:

o Clear Proxy Settings
+ Works system-wide (for IE and Chrome) and also on each Firefox profile found in all user profile directories.
o Reset Networking Interfaces, including these common commands/processes:
+ netsh winsock reset
+ netsh winsock reset catalog
+ Deletes existing winsock registry keys and imports the default winsock keys (XP only)
+ netsh interface ip reset (only if set to DHCP, so not to mess up any static IP settings)
+ netsh interface reset all (only if set to DHCP, so not to mess up any static IP settings)
+ netsh interface ip delete arpcache
+ ipconfig /flushdns
+ ipconfig /registerdns
+ ipconfig /release all
+ ipconfig /renew all

* Requiring 3rd Party Tools:

o Defrag Startup Items (requires contig.exe from Sysinternals)
+ Defragments all files located in startup folders and sections of the registry for faster startup performance.
o Defrag Paging File and Registry (requires pagedfrg.exe from Sysinternals
o Run Piriform CCleaner automatically.
o Run Piriform Defraggler automatically.

* Custom Application Support:

o Choose up to 4 applications of your own preference to be executed as part of the maintenance routine!
o Support for more than 4 applications can be requested if you ask nice enough ;)

* Reporting Features:

o Ability to generate HTML reports (useful for system administrators) with the appropriate utilities from Nirsoft.net:
+ Internet History
+ Cookies
+ Internet Search History
+ List of Installed Applications
o Reports are normally stored in the application directory\Reports\%computername%
o Reports can be attached to the email sent to the administrator (see email features below)

* Maintenance Completion Options:

o Details of operation from start to finish are written to the Windows Application Event Log
+ including MB of temp files deleted.
+ including status reporting on maintenance options performed.
+ including status of any errors reported during the maintenance process.
o Optionally email the tech on completion! (requires your own SMTP server to be configured.)
+ including MB of temp files deleted.

+ optionally you can include a PC Health check giving you status on:
# System RAM
# Hard Drive total capacity and available space
# Antivirus application installed as reported by Windows Security Center
# Firewall installed as reported by Windows Security Center
# Windows Automatic Updates enabled/disabled
# System Restore enabled/disabled
+ optionally include the Nirsoft reports mentioned earlier.
o Create a System Restore point on completion (if enabled)
+ with option to name the restore point whatever you wish
o Force a reboot of the PC on completion
+ optionally force a shutdown instead
+ offer a 30 second timed cancel prompt just in case a user is sitting in front of the PC and wishes to cancel the shutdown/reboot.

* Optional Registered Features:

o Offer a 30 second timed cancel prompt prior to starting maintenance, just in case a user is in front of the PC and needs to continue working.
o Optionally run completely silent and invisible to the user.
o Brand the application with your company name / logo and custom application title (naturally not visible when running invisibly!)
