A program that searches a computer hard drive for Facebook
Fchat (a.k.a. FCT) is a program that searches a computer hard drive for Facebook chat messages or silently captures Facebook chat as it occurs. An HTML report file is created containing the located/captured messages, sorting them by date and time. Unicode is supported (i.e. different languages) and converted to the original text.
The above screenshot is Fchat's main screen. In Option 1, "Search this computer for Facebook chat messages", there are two searches.
The first one, Quick Search, is pretty much what it says. It will run a fast search on your system drive (usually C:\) and recover any existing Facebook chat messages it finds. Because it's a quick search, it does not recover all of the chat messages that are still on your hard drive but it can still find quite a few. If you want to run a comprehensive search that searches your entire system drive for chat messages, you should choose Full Search instead.
Which brings us to the Full Search option. This search will scan through your entire system drive for Facebook chat messages, including free space, virtual memory files, and so on. As you would expect, this search takes a lot longer than the Quick Search, but it's also a much more comprehensive search and will recover the most Facebook chat from your hard drive. Please keep in mind that since Facebook does not actually log your chat anywhere, Fchat is only able to find messages that were left behind. It's impossible to predict how many will be found or from which time frame.
Option 2, "Capture live Facebook chat messages", does not search for Facebook chat.
Instead, what it does is run in the background and silently capture chat messages as they are sent or received. When the capture is started, Fchat will close and start a background capture process that is not visible to the person using the computer and uses very little system resources.
When you are ready to stop the chat capture, simply run Fchat again and it will detect that the background capture is running, and show you the number of messages captured/found so far. From there you can stop the capture and generate a web page file containing the chat messages, or, you can exit Fchat and let the capture continue.
Both Internet Explorer and Firefox are supported. (but not other browsers at this time)
When you click on Capture live Facebook chat messages, you will be taken to a second screen where you will select a folder to save captured messages to, and can select/deselect a couple of options (which are explained in the Help page on that screen).
What it does not do
Fchat does not guarantee that every chat that has occurred on your account will be recovered; only chat messages that were sent/received on the computer Fchat is run on will be found, and not all messages will still exist on the hard drive to be found. It's impossible to know how many messages will be recoverable or from which time frame.
Also, due to the nature of how Facebook chat messages are left behind on your computer, some may not get captured when running Fchat in Capture Mode (but this is very rare).
Why use it?
Fchat is useful for recovering your old Facebook live chat conversations or or logging/saving your own. JADsoftware does not condone or endorse using Fchat for any illegal purposes.
* Fchat has been tested on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. It should run fine on Windows 2003 Server but will NOT run on Windows 9x and prior.
* Disk and memory requirements are very minimal, if you can run Windows XP you can run Fchat.
