InSight Description

InSight integrates the functionality of multiple applications in a single, user friendly interface

General Features

* New Enhanced Graphical Interface.
o Ensures optimal productivity and greater ease of use.
* Multi-level tree view list
o Hierarchical tree, with unlimited number of items and branch levels, with support for multiple selections, drag and drop, and check boxes.
* Multi-document tabbed interface.
o Allows having any number of documents or topics opened side-by-side.
* Browse previous documents or topics in a catalog
o Using the back and forth buttons. A second option is using the History List. And there is also the Recent Documents or Recent Topics drop-down buttons.
* Access the last used documents or catalogs
o Using the drop-down list on the "G" (global) button. Or the more specific "D" (recent documents) button and "C" (recent catalogs) button.
* Back and Forth Switch.
o Ability to switch back and forth between the last two documents or catalogs using the F6 key.
* Unlimited size for documents and topics.
o Anything can be any length (topic titles and contents, paragraphs, and text). There is also no restriction on the amount of topics in a catalog.
* Automatic reopening documents at startup.
o Files in use in the previous session are automatically reopened at startup.
* Favorites.
o The powerful Favorites feature can open simultaneously any combination of documents, catalogs, topics, launch URLs in a browser, and even run other applications at once. Each favorite entry can have a caption of your choice, and the Favorites menu can optionally display a tooltip showing the paths that each entry is going to open. The Favorites Editor includes search and replace features to help finding a desired link in order to edit it, or replacing text in specific fields.
* Projects.
o Save a whole working environment as a project that can be reopened with a single click. Like Favorites, projects can open other applications, so it is possible to create different project environments for different tasks.
* Layouts and Custom Views.
o A compact Text Editing layout allows maximizing the editing area, while the classic Document Management layout gives greater visibility to document and catalog buttons. Further customization is also possible through several options.
* Highlighted Topic Buttons.
o The captions of individual topic buttons can be assigned different colors.
* Watermarks
o For individual documents and catalogs.
* Custom Fonts
o For individual documents and catalogs. Certain documents can, for example, have a fixed font, for better text alignment, while others may display a more aesthetically pleasing proportional font.
o The new Fonts Toolbar Makes it easy to manage both watermarks and custom fonts for individual documents and catalogs.
* Optional checkboxes.
o Can be shown or hidden as needed on the topic tree and lists.
* Customizable Keyboard Shortcuts
o Provides easy access to the most used menus.
* New "Search All" option.
o Search both opened catalogs and documents, with all matches displayed on the Search List.
* Regular Expressions -
o Regular Expressions (greedy and non-greedy) are supported in both the Search Bar and the Find and Replace Dialogs.
* Symbols (Menu)
o Provides a selected group of useful ASCII symbols easy to insert in text.
* Inserts -
o Images (and other files desired) can be Associated with a Catalog, with a copy of the selected file automatically placed in a special directory and a link inserted in the current topic.
* Broken Favorites Link Report -
o This time-saving report lists any InSight favorites pointing to files that are inaccessible or that you may have renamed or deleted.
* Backward Compatibility with InSight 2 and NoteTab™.
o Allows opening, viewing, and editing InSight2 catalogs (.cat) and NoteTab outlines (.otl). Those files are automatically converted to the new format, with multilevel tree support, when saving any changes, with a copy of the original preserved.

Editing Text

* Use InSight as a plain text editor or as a word processor with font styles in documents and topics.
o You can bold, italicize, underline or highlight text, or apply a second font of your choice. The files are still basically text files, with just a few small codes that do not affect legibility when opened in another application. **
* All fonts supported.
o Both fixed and proportional fonts are supported, with the ability to define a second font to use for subtitles or to apply to table data. The font of lists and tab buttons can also be customized, including size, color and background.
* Special Option to apply font styles in .txt files.
o InSight is the first and only program that we know allowing bold, italics, underline or highlighted text in .txt files. And the files are still basically plain text! **
* Flexible, powerful, intuitive text editing features.
o Most features can be accessed in different ways, allowing you to select the method that's most comfortable for you.
* Drag and drop across documents or topics.
o You can drag to copy text between documents.
* File URLs.
o Paths in text are active hyperlinks, allowing you to open documents, pictures, databases, and any other files from within InSight, as well as exploring folders and launching other programs.
* Hyperlinks to documents, topics, programs and Internet.
o Hyperlinks can be easily inserted in text, anywhere in your documents or catalogs, to open one or several documents or topics, launch programs, access websites, and much more...
* International Accents.
o The unique International Accents feature in InSight allows you to type graphic accents and special characters (like ç, ñ, à, ü , and others) without having to deal with a different keyboard arrangement, as is the case when shifting keyboard layouts in Windows. You can keep using the same familiar keyboard layout, with no need to figure out where a specific key is! And you'll find out that typing an accent after a vowel comes more natural than having to remember to type the accent before the vowel.
* Syntax highlighting
o Built-in syntax highlighting includes HTML, Delphi Pascal, C++, Visual Basic, Perl, Assembly, and others...Additional languages can be added as needed, and the existing syntax definitions can be easily customized. Syntax highlighting can be automatically applied when a document or topic is opened.
* Columnar block selection.
o Select columns of text, cut, copy and paste column blocks.
* Text tables.
o Sort tables by column, align text within a specific column, calculate values by row or column, and automatically reformat disarranged tables.
* Enclose Lines -
o Quickly marking a block of text by enclosing it between punctuated lines.
* Word Count
o Shows quick analysis of words and characters used in the current document, topic, or selected text, and their frequencies.
* Code Viewer
o The Show Codes feature reveals any non-visible characters inserted in text. It makes it easier to spot all such characters contained on a line, as well as finding out the numeric code value of each.
* Display Non Printing Characters
o This feature permits seeing at a glance all non printing characters contained in text displayed as dots.
* Format CSV -
o Comma separated text is great for computers to read. This function makes such text easier to read for humans.

Compare Files

* Multiple documents and catalog topics can be displayed side by side.
o You can have topics from the same or different catalogs visible side by side, for compared editing, using floating windows or the Sync Window feature.
* Compare files or topics.
o A third-party file comparison utility can be used to compare files or topics.*
* Backup comparison.
o This state-of-the-art feature allows comparing a file to its latest backup. Useful to see what changed since the previous backup in a particular document or catalog.*

Dictionary and Spell Checking

* Live spell checking
o Underlines misspelled words, with context menu showing alternate correct spellings. Spelling dictionaries for most western languages can be downloaded. (Registered Version.)
* Classic Spell checking
o Classic spell checking using a wizard dialog.
* English thesaurus.
o The Thesaurus component currently used by the program only supports the English language. (There is, however, dictionary support for spell checking in a variety of languages.)
* WordWeb support included.
o This popular third-party English dictionary and thesaurus comes in a freeware version available for download on the Internet. It can be invoked from InSight, displaying the word at cursor or matching a word or phrase selected in text.

Export and Print

* Export to HTML
o Outline trees can be exported for viewing in a browser. The resulting output can be posted on a website.
* Export to RTF
o Allows moving documents and catalogs to a word processor, preserving any text formatting. There is also a Copy to RTF function for quick portability.
* Print Preview
o Preview the output of documents and catalogs before printing.
* Print Selected Topics or Documents
o Ability to print selected topics or documents in batch.

Organize Topics and Documents

* Move or sort tab buttons.
o Document, topic or catalog buttons can be sorted using this command.
* Copy multiple selected topics from a catalog.
o You can also cut selected topics, or Add from Clipboard a group of topics. This makes it possible to easily move whole sections, to better organize topics and catalogs.
* Copy multiple selected documents.
o Documents, similarly to topics, can also be selected on the Document List and copied as topics that can be inserted in a catalog. The original documents can, then, be deleted from InSight, if desired.
* Search Topics
o Instantly find all topics matching a word or group of words. You can use words, partial words and wildcards, as well as indicate words to exclude, and whether the search should be done only on titles or include topic contents. --- All topics matching the text are retrieved at once on the Search List.
* Search Lines feature
o Retrieves lines matching a search or word. The results can be further filtered by typing a new word in the dialog.
* Act on several selected topics at once using the context-menu of lists.
o For example, selecting and copying topics returned by a search, to add to another catalog, or copying just their titles, inserting a link to those topics in the current document or topic, and more...
