OntoCreator Description

Automatically create synthetic ontologies

OntoCreator is a tool able to automatically create synthetic ontologies according to user given adjustable specifications with respect to size, distribution of certain language construct and expressivity. The current version will generate ontologies according to the Öffnet einen externen Link in einem neuen FensterOWL1.1 specification.

Features:

OntoCreator can generate huge ontologies up to millions of concepts, properties and individuals. Another goal of this project is to easily share huge ontologies, without being required to send a file with the size of gigabytes. To do this, the tool produces a OWL file for the ontology and a text file with the information about the user configuration for generating the ontology. In fact, OntoCreator can load the inputs in the text file and it can always create the same OWL file from the same text file. For this reason, we decided to use Java Web Start to avoid problems of versioning and uploading. The consistency of the ontology is not a requirement; so the tool will not guarantee it.
The scope of the tool is to automatically create synthetic ontologies with given characteristics to use in benchmark, so the names of instances of concepts, properties and individuals are not important. For this reason, they are indicated by acronyms like C#, P# or I# (where # is a growing number without limits). The tool is implemented in Java (J2SE) and provides a tab-enabled interface for setting the ontology characteristics.
