PostgreSQL is a reliable and powerful database system which benefits from more than 15 years of active development. The software provides a comprehensive architecture and has a strong reputation for data integrity, reliability and correctness. The software is cross-platform and fully compliant with ACID, offering complete support for joins, views, foreign keys, jtriggers, and stored procedures.
PostgreSQL packs the majority of SQL:2008 data types, including VARCHAR, DATE, INTEGER, NUMERIC, INTERVAL, TIMESTAMP, CHAR and BOOLEAN. Additionally, the software supports storage of large-sized objects, such as sounds, pictures, or videos. Its native programming interface is compatible with Perl, Python, Ruby, C/C++, Java, .Net, Tcl, ODBC, etc.
PostgreSQL provides advanced features such as table-spaces, asynchronous replication, Multi-Version Concurrency Control (MVCC), point in time recovery, nested transactions (savepoints), online/hot backups, write ahead logging and a powerful query planner and optimizer. The program is able to support Unicode characters, multibyte character encoding, and international character sets.
PostgreSQL is a powerful and compliant software, conforming to the ANSI-SQL:2008 standard. The application offers complete support for subqueries, serializable and read-committed transaction isolation levels. The integrated fully relational system catalog is capable of supporting multiple schemas per database, being accessible via the Information Schema established by the SQL standard.
