Proxy Sniffer Description

Test scenarios can be recorded quickly and easily through pre-surfing with any web browser

Encrypted HTTPS connections are decrypted at run-time and their content is shown in plain text.

In addition to this, data traffic of "stand alone" web client applications which transfer data using XML, SOAP or ASCII text can also be recorded.

Integrated Web Crawler

Alternatively to the manual recording of a test, simple test scenarios - which do not require any inputs in HTML forms - can be recorded automatically using an integrated Web Crawler.

The Web Crawler recursively follows all of the hyperlinks of a website and "discovers" its web pages like a search engine.

After the completion of the Web Crawler "scan", the result can then be converted into a "normally recorded" web browser surfing session.

Automatic Protection from "false positive" Measurement Results

To prevent false conclusions from inaccurate executed measurements, like checking only the HTTP response codes of the URL calls, Proxy Sniffer contains an integrated protective mechanism against "false positive" measurement results. During the recording of a test this special function automatically analyses the data content of all URL responses and configures most useful text-search fragments in order to automatically check the content of the recorded web pages during the execution of a load test.

Post-Processing of the Recording

Recorded web session can be post-processed quickly and easily using the high-performance GUI.

In this way, for instance, an own login account can be assigned to each simulated user by using an input file.

All the simulated data of a user, such as submitted HTML form fields or CGI parameters of URL requests can, if necessary, be provided with variable values with a few mouse clicks.

Dynamically exchanged session parameters such as .NET VIEWSTATE values, or also at runtime created order numbers of a shopping basket, can often be handled automatically in the GUI with just one mouse click.

Dynamic values can also be assigned to XML and SOAP data which are frequently used by Ajax calls, RSS Feeds or "stand alone" web client applications.

Creation and Starting of Load Test Programs

The recorded web sessions which have been post-processed with the GUI can be directly converted into runnable Java load test programs. The automatically generated program code contains all of the functionalities specified in the GUI and never requires manual adjustment on the code level.

Subsequent to the conversion, the load test program can be started immediately using the Proxy Sniffer infrastructure - on the local system as well as on a remote system - or also as a cluster job.

Several load test programs can be run in parallel at the same time.

Proxy Sniffer Cluster Technology

Using the Proxy Sniffer cluster technology, the load test programs are transferred automatically to the load-releasing computers (so-called Exec Agents) and started on them. The local system, which contains the GUI, co-ordinates the cluster and allows real-time monitoring and real-time error analysis of the cluster jobs.

After the completion of the load test, the measurement results of the individual cluster computers are automatically consolidated to provide a single overall result.

Real-Time Error Analyses and Real-Time Monitoring

Already during the running of a test, all measured errors including their details can be displayed in the GUI, so that error analyses can be started immediately after an error has occurred, without it being necessary to wait for the end of the load test.

In addition to this, the most important measurement diagrams and measured values are also shown in real-time.

Detailed Measurement Results

All of the measurement results are prepared automatically and displayed in the form of diagrams and/or tables.
After to the completion of just one test run, up to 19 different statistics and diagrams are available which contain a wide range of both detail values as well as overview values.

In addition to the complete capture of data on the web page, URL and network level, further measurement values which contain useful information about the optimization and the configuration of the web application are also captured.

For example, the efficiency of the reused network connections and the efficiency of the reused SSL sessions (abbreviated SSL handshakes) is also measured. Both can be optimized directly by configuring the corresponding tuning parameters of the web server.

Comparison Diagrams

When the same load test has been executed two or more times, a graphically comparison of the measurement results from the individual test runs can be made.

Often, e.g. after a tuning step of the web application has been realized, a control measurement is performed. The results can then be compared with the results of an earlier executed test. The progress achieved with regard to the response time behavior and stability (before/after) can be visualized through the comparison diagrams.

Load Curve Diagrams

Results of several similar load tests - but each time executed with a different number of users - can be aggregated and displayed as load curve diagrams.

The load curve diagrams show - in relation to the number of simulated users (X-axis) - a graphic overview of the response time behavior, the throughput, and the stability of the web application.

You are therefore able to determine accurately the number of users for which the web application is suitable, and how it will perform later under actual conditions.

Using the load curve diagrams it is also possible to determine which URL calls and/or menu items of a web application remain in need of further optimization.

The load curve diagrams also consist of a wide range of detail values which allow for example quickly to determine if the network connection of the web application has a performance reducing influence.

PDF Reports and Export of Measurement Data

It is also possible to create PDF reports from the test results. These reports can be supplemented with own comments in a preview function

As the access to the Proxy Sniffer GUI occurs with a web browser, all of the measurement values and measurement diagrams (dynamically created GIF images) can alternatively be exported using the web browser.

The measurement results can also be exported as CSV-formatted data and then further processed with a spreadsheet program.
