The ability of the DB Comparer to compare SQL Server databases is destined to return, in a colored grid, the differences of structure and content between SQL databases and tables using a schema comparison. Checking manually SQL Server databases for differences is a time consuming and opened to errors task, as databases usually contain a large number of items, such as tables or stored procedures. Using its two functionalities - compare content and compare by using a schema comparison – the DB Comparer is the perfect solution for all the SQL comparison tasks.

The user will be automatically prompted with the compare message and with the detailed results after usage. When comparing the content of two tables, first the user needs to define the compared sources selecting both databases and their targeted tables. The functionality returns the output in four sub-menus.

The first two sub-menus are related to the missing items from one of the databases as opposed to the other, going in both directions, while declaring also the number of differences acknowledged. The third menu clearly states the number of the differences found between the two databases when performing the content comparison and their location, while the fourth menu, after comparing the content, returns all items that are equal and their total number.

The results of the SQL databases comparison are clearly identified and presented in a colored grid, where all the content differences are highlighted. Using the schema comparison feature requires only the selection of the SQL databases set for comparison and the direction of the process under which the user will specify which is the source database and the target system. The direction of comparison can be changed, as needed.

The user can decide to compare the content and structure of the two databases in the desired direction selecting all items or only a part of them. The schema based option permits the comparison of tables, columns, views, functions, stored procedures, DLL triggers, table triggers, database roles and database users.

The output of the schema comparison resides in a centralized form where all differences are presented, grouped by their category. The answer sent by the application will be formed either by a missing item or by a different item found. More details become visible when selecting each item in the list, for example, a missing column or table, or a different column, table or stored procedure. The output is arranged in two sub-menus: DLL and Difference.

If the Difference tab will comprise the general details regarding the missing or different items, mainly focused on their location within the database structure, the DLL tab helps the user to easily visualize the scripting differences between the two versions, highlighting them n the script. Looking back on all the available functionalities of the DB Comparer, a clear advantage is distinguished between the traditional approach and the use of the SQLDog Utility Suite.

With the help of the DB Comparer, the highly resource consuming task is replaced by an organized output received automatically in seconds that has also the ability to eliminate totally the need to redo the search in case some different or missing items were not identified at a first passage through.
